Congressman Chris Collins Procures $184,477 in AFG Grant Funding for the North Evans Fire District

Jul 26, 2017
Press Release

Congressman Chris Collins (NY-27) today announced $184,477 in federal funding for the North Evans Fire District. The grant was awarded through the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program, which is designed to help first responders improve their capability to respond to fires and emergencies of all types.

“The AFG program is an opportunity for the federal government to invest in the safety and overall well-being of local communities throughout the nation,” said Congressman Chris Collins. “When our first responders are able to access the best and most effective equipment available, the communities they serve will be better off. I am glad this $184,477 in AFG program funding is being invested into New York’s 27th Congressional District and thank the members of the North Evans Fire District for their service.”

The North Evans Fire District will use this $184,477 federal grant to purchase 40 Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) air packs. This will provide members of the North Evans Fire District with breathable air when responding to an emergency situation.

“This federal grant funding will help immensely,” said Nick Mecca, Chief of the North Evans Fire District. “We need this essential equipment to keep our volunteer firefighters safe and protect the local community. We appreciate Congressman Collins’ efforts on behalf of our local fire departments and will continue to work with him in the future.”

The AFG Grant Program provides direct funding assistance to fire departments, State Fire Training Academies, and non-affiliated EMS organizations to enhance their response capabilities and to more effectively protect the health and safety of both the public and emergency response personnel with respect to fire and all other hazards.
